THE ROAD TO SINGAPORE
USA : 81mins : 1940 : BW : Certificate‘U’
Directed by Victor Schertzinger
MONDAY 13TH MAY : 7PM (DOORS OPENS 6.30PM) :
PIER VIEW SELF CATERING LUXURY APARTMENTS
Admission £6. Limited to 12 tickets. First come, first served.
The first in the fantastically popular Road
series brought together Bing Crosby and Bob Hope – and ravishing Dorothy Lamour – in a trademark ramshackle plot with a handful of songs and plenty of irreverent banter. Bing leaves his wealthy family for the vagabond life, and Bob is happy to join him. But the ‘plot’ is rather beside the point, as our heroes are more at home with muttered asides, show-biz in-jokes and gratuitous insults. No wonder it became a franchise!
The admission price includes light refreshments

THEY WILL HAVE TO KILL US FIRST
UK : 100mins : 2015
MONDAY 27TH MAY : 7.30PM
THE RAILWAY HOTEL
FREE ADMISSION
Music is the beating heart of Malian culture, but when Islamic jihadists took control of northern Mali in 2012, they enforced one of the harshest interpretations of sharia law in history: they banned all forms of music. Radio stations were destroyed, instruments burned and musicians faced torture, even death. But rather than laying down their instruments, the musicians are fighting back, standing up for their cultural heritage and identity. With a specially commissioned soundtrack from some of Mali’s most exciting artistes, this powerful documentary follows them as they fight for their right to sing.
AMÁ
UK : 73mins : 2018
TUESDAY 28TH MAY : 8PM
THE RAILWAY HOTEL
TICKETS: £5.00 ON THE DOOR
Amá is the Navajo word for mother. This powerful and shocking documentary exposes the forced sterilisation of thousands of Native American women by the US government. The director travelled across some of the loneliest parts of the USA, meeting the brave survivors, doctors, politicians and whistle-blowers who have brought to light this horrifying scandal. The film’s release has encouraged women to come forward to share their stories of being subjected to the violence of forced sterilisation, suggesting that this abuse continues to persist in the USA and around the world, posing the question: When will this suffering end?
It is hoped director Lorna Tucker will attend for a Q&A session.

CULT NIGHT ‘DOUBLE BILL’: THEATRE OF BLOOD + OPERA
FRIDAY 31ST MAY : 7PM (DOORS AT 6:30PM)
THE OLD WATERWORKS
TICKETS: £5 : No advance booking : Over 18s Only
Alone in the Dark: A century of Stalk and Slash, in association with The White Bus Cinema, presents this double bill of theatrical horrors. Theatre of Blood (1973) was the perfect vehicle for Vincent Price, as he hams it up big time as a demented actor who bumps off members of the Critics Circle (played by a celebrity guest list to die for – literally!) when they don’t give him the award he feels he deserves. Then, with famed Italian horror maestro Dario Argento’s Opera (1987), things take a distinctly nasty turn, as a young opera star is stalked by a deranged fan who kills off anybody who gets close to her.
